What are Carrboro's biggest opportunities?

Aja For Carrboroover 1 year agoThe Budget
The town gets very little participation from the residents on CIP (Capital Infrastructure projects). How are these large $ projects decided? What is the expected financial return on the investment? For example, building a $26m+ library in downtown Carrboro, what is the expected return on that versus if it were attainable (affordable - middle) housing? What debt will the town take on to provide these improvements?
3ldrover 1 year agoRezone downtown so that all new residential construction is multifamily
Stop allowing developers to build high-end single-family homes within walking distance of downtown Carrboro. Instead, rezone the area so that any new construction must be multifamily with affordable units (and do not allow developers to buy their way out of providing those).
1jengyabout 2 years agoTransparency and Data
We spend so much time focusing on how to make it better but where is the data on what it’s like to live here? Where is the crime rates? How many people have asked for assistance with homelessness, how many were helped? How many individuals have asked for Mental Health support and not received it? How many people are waiting in line to get help? Identify the issues with transparency, we focus so much on making it better but what are we making better? Focus on the people and what they need. Reach out to the entire community with surveys, visit the homeless and ask questions.
5Ellie Heffernanalmost 2 years agoGet rid of single family / large lot size zoning.
Although there is nothing wrong with having big houses, making it so a certain area can ONLY have big houses leads to income segregation and disparities in school quality. Other cities have taken steps toward doing this, such as Minneapolis: https://www.inman.com/2019/10/25/minneapolis-has-officially-eliminated-single-family-zoning/#:~:text=The%20Minneapolis%20City%20Council%20on,plan%20goes%20into%20effect%20Jan.

Every resident should be within a accessible 1/2 mile of a park. This need will become especially needed if the Town moves to higher density with townhomes that are typically developed without recreational space.
